Portland

Whoop Whoop!

Day one in Portland

First thing after waking up, we went down to Upper Left Roasters for some coffee to start our day. After coffee, we decided to walk to VooDoo to get some donuts. I got one called the Old Dirty Bastard and it was a vanilla donut with chocolate frosting, crushed oreos and peanut butter drizzle on top. Ryker got one called the Memphis Mafia, it was a banana fritter covered in chocolate and peanut butter drizzle with peanuts and chocolate chips on top. They were a lot to eat to say the least, good, but a lot. After donuts we decided to spend our time walking around Pearl District and looking in all the shops.

A few hours later we met up with my aunt Heather, who lives here. We hung out and chatted a bit, but then it was time for us to head to Home Depot to get some hooks to keep our cabinets closed as we drive, because our magnets we had broke the day before.

Once those were all fixed we went to find another Planet Fitness to shower and make dinner. After dinner we made a pit stop at Target to get a few things, then it was off to our campsite for bed.

Day two in Portland

Sterling Coffee was where we started our day today. Ryker was able to get a flight of different espressos that they had, that was pretty cool. I got a caramel latte and that was really good too. After Sterling we went out to breakfast at Sweedeedee. It's a super cute shop with really good breakfast, Ryk got an egg sandwich and I got a breakfast burrito. They were really good and reminded us of our Sunday morning breakfast back home at Scrimshaw.

When we were done with breakfast we decided to do some thrifting for the day. We went to this place called Renew, which had a lot of cool furniture and then William Temple House, where I got this super cute BDG sweater for only $5! We also found this massive Goodwill, but didn't really find anything there. We also walked though a few furniture stores like Pottery Barn and West Elm and talked about our plans on how we want to decorate our future home. A few hours later we realized we had run out of water for our sink, so we went on a hunt for public water to fill it up. After a while we found a park that had a hook up and we were able to fill up and make dinner. Then we found another Planet Fitness close by the park and got ready for bed. As we were setting up we both got a craving for ice cream, so off to Whole Foods we went. We decided on Talenti Gelato, an old favorite. I got the sea salt caramel and Ryker got the black raspberry chocolate chip. Once we got to our campsite we got in bed, ate our ice cream and watched some Jane the Virgin before going to bed. A great, relaxing day.

Day three in Portland

First stop today was Good Coffee, I got just a vanilla latte and Ryker got a single origin cappuccino. We sat in the shop for a few hours, taking advantage of the wifi and outlets to use and charge our computers. Working on the fun stuff, like getting jobs after our trip is over, how to furnish our new apartment in Raleigh and figuring out the best way to get the rest of our things that are still in San Diego out to Raleigh, fun stuff.

After we had finished our coffee, we were pretty hungry. We got breakfast at Pine State Biscuits and it was amazing. I got the Reggie, which was a biscuit sandwich with fried chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese and sausage gravy. Ryker got the Pine State Club which had fried chicken, ham, fried green tomatoes, chipotle sauce, and sharp white cheddar.

After breakfast we went and got a bit more coffee at Either/Or. Well Ryker got coffee, I didn't. He got a Salty Russian, their mocktail version of a white russian. After Either/Or closed, we decided we wanted to drink a bit so we went back to Pearl District and went to drink at 10 Barrel. They have a really cool rooftop patio with a seperate bar, but with it being a Saturday night, they were packed and we couldn't get a seat. So we tried our luck next door at Back Pedal. I got a raspberry cider and Ryker got a hazy IPA called Galaxy Myst.

After drinking a bit, I was a pretty tipsy, so we decided to walk around the town a bit so I could sober up. We went to REI and Sur La Table and ended with Whole Foods, where we bought two slices of pizza for dinner. We sat down and ate our food, and after I felt sober again, we went back to our campsite for the night and went to sleep.

Day four in Portland

We were woken up today by the rain and it was pretty calming. We went out to get coffee at Barista. I got a hazelnut latte and Ryker got a cortado. We hung out there for a little while before heading off to the rest of our rainy day here.

After we had finished our coffee we walked around the shops in that area, the Alberta Arts district.

Once our meter was up we went back down to Pearl district to go to a few more shops and spend the rainy day in Powell's Bookstore, which was super crowded. So we walked a bit, got donuts from Blue Star and some snacks and early dinner from Whole Foods. We ate and then went back to our campsite to just relax and watch some youtube videos before going to Planet Fitness. After a shower, we went back to the campsite for bed.

Day five in Portland

We started today off with coffee and breakfast from Proud Mary, an australian coffee company. I got a latte and the Dutch Honey Hotcake and Ryker got a pourover and the Pork Bun. After breakfast we went to the Alberta Park for a bit before going to Either/Or for more coffee at the other location.

After we got a bit more coffee and hung out there for a while, we just went back to our campsite and ate some chips and bean dip and watched some Netflix until we went to bed. Very uneventful day.

Day six in Portland

Another rainy day in Portland, but it is our last day here. We got a late start today because we really just wanted to sleep in a bit and the sound of the rain hitting the van was really relaxing.

Once we finally got up we went back to Good Coffee to start the morning answering emails and setting up things for once we move (don't we sound so adult).

Once we finished our coffee we went back to Pine Street Biscuits for breakfast. I got the same thing as last time and Ryker got a plate of hash browns with fried chicken on top.

After we had finished eating it was about 3pm, so we went down to a laundromat to do some laundry before we left town. Once our laundry was done we went to this place called Game Knight, it's a bar and lounge that has hundreds of different board games that you can play while you drink. So I got a lemonade cocktail and Ryker got an IPA, and we sat and played Guess Who, Fox in the Forest, Don't Break the Ice and Ghost Blitz. I was a lot of fun.

We finished our games and called it a tie, we both won two of the games, but it was getting too late to play a tiebreaker game. We went down to Planet Fitness, and topped off our gas for our drive to Olympia, Washington in the morning. So we went back to our campsite to get some sleep.
