Morro Bay / Hearst Castle / Sequoia National Park

Beautiful views all around.

Once we woke up, we headed up to Morro Bay to make breakfast on our way up to Hearst Castle. We pulled up to Morro Rock and the fog was just starting to lift. We opened the slider and pulled out our camper stove to pan fry some breakfast sausages and some toast. We decided to sit up in the luggage rack of the van to eat breakfast as we watched the otters in the water.

After breakfast we got all cleaned up and headed out towards Hearst Castle.

We took the shuttle bus up to the castle and learned that the site was originally the site that Hearst grew up tent camping on, but in his older age wanted to build "a little something" on the hill for his family. We got to tour the outside balconies and pool before heading inside to tour the grand rooms. We got to see the living room that had a bunch of tapestries and hand-carved choir seats lining the walls. We also toured the game room which had two pool tables that Hearst would encourage all guests, men and women alike, to play games together which, at the time, was usually frowned upon. When we toured the dining room we were told that Hearst purposefully made the table very narrow to force conversation between his guests. After our tour of the castle ended we watched a movie about Hearst growing up and starting the build of his home. We then headed out towards Sequoia National Park.

We stopped at a Planet Fitness along the way for a shower and to use the massage chairs. Then it was back out to find our spot for the night in Sequoia.

After driving two hours of driving through the entirety of the national park and seeing all the beauty Sequoia has to offer, we finally came to our campsite for the night. We were just outside the park in the national forest and it had the most beautiful scenery to wake up to the next morning as we started our way towards Yosemite.
