New York

We never want to leave!

Our drive to New York was a lot better than our drive to Boston, and was a lot more uneventful. Once we pulled into the Brox it was mid day and the traffic was pretty backed up. We were only 12 miles away from Brooklyn and it took us almost an hour and a half to get there. But we found our sleep spot and went to bed pretty early in prep for the long day we had ahead of us.

Day one in NYC

Our day started out at 4:30am to go and pick up our friend Joseph from JFK airport. His brother lives in the same town in Brooklyn that we were parking up at, so we could all spend time together.

We parked the van back in Williamsburg and hopped on the subway towards Manhattan.

We stopped by Wall Street first to get coffee at Black Fox, where Joseph's brother Jonathan works.

After coffee and breakfast we walked down towards the ferries to get a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. After that we went walking around to see some history stuff like the 9/11 memorial, and Trinity Church to see Alexander Hamilton's grave site. After walking a bit we took the subway again to get some coffee at a place called Everyman. It was a pretty cool space. Then we walked to Strand Bookstore and spent a while in there looking around before walking along Highline Park. After we were done at the park, we were all pretty hungry so we got lunch at Momofuku Nishi. It was cool to eat at a Michelin star restaurant. From lunch we walked around a bit more before taking the subway again back to Brooklyn to get more coffee at Day Moves, a very speakeasy vibe place. From there Ryker and I walked back to the van to relax for a bit before meeting up with Joseph and Jonathan and his girlfriend Tiffany at a bar called Pinkerton. After drinks, we called it a night and went back to the van to head to bed.

Day two in NYC

Today was a rainy day, so we met up with Joseph and took the subway down to Sey coffee. It was a really cool place, but the barista was kinda out of it. From there we took the subway back to Manhattan and went back to Black Fox to say hi to Jonathan and get some cookies. Then we walked around the Financial District and walked though City Hall Park before taking the subway down to Central Park. We spent a long time walking around before meeting up with our friend Ben for lunch at Justino's Pizza. Ben told us that the new MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) was having a secret grand opening today and it was free entry. So we walked down there and got in. We spent hours there looking at all the art the 6 floor museum had.

After MoMA, it was starting to rain a lot more now, but we walked around Manhattan a bit more and got coffee at a shop called Birch, Ryker said it wasn't very good. After that we took the subway back to Brooklyn and chillin in the van until going out to dinner with the crew again at Jimmy's Diner. We were pretty beat after walking all day that we just went back to the van for bed after dinner.

Day three in NYC

Our last day in New York.. We met up with Joseph and walked to a coffee shop called Marlow and Sons to start the day. From there we walked up and down the waterfront at 5th street park by the Brooklyn Bridge. After our walk we met up with Jonathan to get bagels at a shop called Frankels. From there, Jonathan wanted to show us some of the more tourist spots, so we took the subway to Grand Central and walked though there before going to the New York Public Library. Then it was a walk to Times Square, which was surprisingly busy for a Monday morning, but cool nonetheless. From there we walked through Chinatown to the lower East Side and got coffee at East One, not that good. From there we walked to a place called L Train Vintage and shopped around a bit before taking the subway back into Williamsburg. Jonathan went home and Ryker, Joseph and I got pizza at the famous Joe's Pizza and it was honestly pretty amazing. After lunch we spent the next few hours walking the streets of Williamsburg and popping in and out of shops before we went back to the van to rest our feet for a bit.

Around 5:30 Joseph texted us that him and Jonathan were going to happy hour at a place called Gertie, so we met up with them there for a bit for drinks. Then Joe was hungry so we went to get nachos at Taqueria Diana, where Tiffany met up with us. After dinner Joe then wanted to show us Milk Bar, so we all went there and got some ice cream before saying goodnight and goodbye. Then it was back to the van for us to get some sleep before our drive to Washington DC the next day.
